Rally Beads was selected as a gift for a delegation from the Villanova community traveling to Rome. University President Father Peter Donohue and Men’s Basketball Coach Jay Wright, met with Pope Francis at the Vatican and presented him with a basketball signed by members of the 2018 NCAA National Championship team. It was a great day for Nova Nation. It was also a great day for Rally Beads!
When we started our business in 2015, our first bracelet was the “Popelet.” Inspired by Pope Francis and his humble and hopeful message, we created a simple gemstone bracelet to capture the good will he inspired. Rally Beads were on the wrists of many of the faithful who lined the streets in Philadelphia to see the Pope when he came to town. The “Popelet” remains one of our most popular pieces and for every one sold, we donate to the Joseph Fund Ministry in Camden, NJ.
While Coach Wright was presenting the basketball to the Holy Father, he was, of course, impeccably dressed. On his wrist, he wore Rally Beads’ Caritas bracelet; a simple circle of lapis beads and a cream howlite cross. For Rally Beads to get an audience with the Pope, on the wrist of Villanova’s head coach, is truly full circle from where we started and why we started—to provide beautiful gemstone bracelets to embrace life’s most precious moments—like meeting the Pope or winning a national championship.
